A  variety of courses are offered by the Columbus Sail and Power Squadron, both to the public and to our members.

America's Boating Course® is also available to the public, and is a self-study course with CD-ROM and workbook. More information is available on the ABC Course here .

Operations Training:
Operations Training is a NO COST class focusing on the USPS History and structure, Squadron Committee Work, Squadron Bridge Officer Role and navigating the National USPS website. This is the course to take if you are interested in our many volunteering opportunities, including serving as a Member at Large or on the Command Bridge.
 
Training will take place at Headquarters on Thursday, June 1st from 7:00-9pm. A great class to take to learn the workings of the Columbus Sail & Power Squadron!

Seminar - Practical Marine Electrical Maintenance: - Non-member cost: $20.00

Practical Marine Electrical Maintenance

This seminar will show you the basics of your boat's electrical system. Have you ever used a multimeter to test an electrical circuit? How about crimping a connector on the end of a wire? Soldered a connector for your VHF radio antenna? You will in this class. You will also find out what the different colored wires are telling you. Have an electrical problem with your boat? Bring it with you to this class and we will try to solve it for you.

If you live in the border states, you can cross international borders and visit our neighbors to the north or south. But what do you need to know? This seminar explains the immigration and customs process and the programs that enable boaters to easily cross into Canada, Mexico or the Bahamas. Be prepared by having the correct documents; we can help you get there. Each student receives a full color Student Guide especially written for the seminar.

Learn the fundamentals of safe boat handling and operation plus basic piloting in this comprehensive classroom course. This newly revised course will give you the basics of line throwing, knot tying, boat handling, anchoring, navigation rules and aids, emergencies on the water and more. Instructors have many years of boating experience shared between inland waters and Lake Erie. An Ohio Department of Natural Resources officer will present Ohio laws and rules.  

This course is recommended because of its detailed course study. With successful completion of our ABC course you receive a certificate of safe boating from the State of Ohio.
